West Coast University is an exciting place to be an institution of higher learning with an intentional focus on practical, solutions-oriented education. With the increasing demand for health care workers nationwide, we are confident that WCU graduates will find the jobs they are seeking. In addition to learning core health care competencies, we want students to graduate with confidence in their capability to meet the demands of this complex and changing world of health care.
With this in mind, we have some big goals for this year, all centered on student learning.
- We are engaged in the development of state-of-the-art Nurse Simulation Centers at each of our campuses. We have found that by using high-fidelity mannequins to simulate patient scenarios, students are confronted with real-world issues that reflect those they will need to respond to in their profession.
- We have opened the West Coast University Center for the Excellence of Learning, Teaching and Assessment
for our faculty this year. The Center will support faculty development and scholarship activities. The Center’s strategic focus is how to enhance faculty facilitation of student learning outcomes. Doing so requires focus on:
- Faculty awareness of the integration between course, program and institutional learning outcomes.
- Faculty development in competence in assessing whether students are mastering course outcomes.
- Faculty development in the ability to provide developmental, frequent feedback to students that optimizes learning.
- Faculty awareness of linkages within the curriculum as reflected in the curriculum map.
At WCU, we don’t believe we are successful as an institution until our students believe they
are successful. We look forward to partnering with students, that is, with you – toward your professional and personal success.
