What our recent grads say about us

Irene Finke
BSN & Public Health Certificate, April 2009

“For the past ten years, I have been working part time as an RN and in 2007, I realized that in order to move forward I had better go back to get by Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.  I found that West Coast University was going to be opening a new campus in Orange County that would offer a BSN program. This seemed ideal, allowing me to continue working part-time while earning my degree. I never thought that I would be going back to school this late in life, but the faculty, staff and my peers were supportive and encouraging, so who knows – I may just keep going to get my Master’s degree!”

Nancy Andal, Director of Nursing at Pomona Vista Care Center
LVN-RN November 2007

“Already a Licensed Vocational Nurse, I never thought I would go back to school to pursue another degree, but that changed when I received an invitation in the mail to learn more about an LVN to RN program at West Coast University. I decided to do a little research online and as I began to explore my options, I realized that enrolling in an RN program would require both a time commitment and a financial one.  In the end, I decided to go for it – my decision was based on the fact that the pay increase that would be waiting for me at the end of the road, would be worth it, and did I make the right decision! Now, when the economy is in a downturn, I feel as if I have nothing to worry about – I have complete job security.

As for my experience at West Coast University, it was exceptional. In fact, my daughter is currently enrolled in the LVN to RN program at the Ontario campus and I could not be more supportive.  The faculty really care about the students – I was able to talk to the most senior management; everyone from the Campus Director to the Dean was always so supportive and approachable – they attended our classes and really listened to our needs. Despite being a rigorous course, my classmates and I had fun getting our degrees, primarily because we were in it together and the faculty really made it feel like a family environment. I am looking forward to a reunion!”

“Yesterday I saw a guy I used to work with when I was a LVN. He’s been talking about becoming a RN for a while now. I showed him my RN license and said “Look at me! I’m already finished!” He said it seemed like just yesterday when I began the program. I told him: “You need to GO to WCU!”
